How exactly do your funds end up in the hands of people living in poverty?

Hi there – as we work to deliver your donation, we wanted to give you a sense of how funds end up in the hands of people living in poverty.

Below is how a hypothetical $1,000 contribution to our Kenya large transfer program goes from donation to being spent by a person in need.

If you’d like to learn more about our operations, you can:

  1. Read a breakdown of our finances: Non-profit finances can be opaque and complex, but we try to make ours understandable.

  2. Dig into exactly what our costs are: This interactive tool lets you explore line by line what our costs are for our large transfer program in Kenya.

  3. See how our team detects and investigates fraud: Few non-profits investigate and report on fraud losses. See a breakdown of the 0.25% of our funds lost to fraud in 2021.

  4. Get a behind-the-scenes look with team members in the field: You can hear from Ann, who grew up in the Kiryandongo refugee settlement in Uganda and worked as a Field Officer there, or Aline, a Burundian refugee and former GiveDirectly recipient who is now a Call Center Officer in Rwanda.
